In the movie's courtroom scene, the jury is made up of twelve criminals. I have identified all of them except one. It was "Asa" who the devil referred to as a "black monk" who "choked men".
Does anyone know if there really was an Asa, or if he was pure fiction.

Asa's fictional. There was a thread here a couple years back in which the specifics of the jury were discussed. I can't find it now. But insofar as the movie, I believe Asa is the only fictional character on the jury. He replaces an equally fictional juror from the original short story named John Smeet.
