Unfortunately, I sure that film stock was being re-cycle at that time. To honest, Universal was doing so poorly that they were recycling the film stock of their silent movies during the 1940's. That is one reason why all but ~1 Harry Carey/John Ford silent movie exists nodays.

If not for Frankenstein or A&C, it is believed Universal would not have made to the 1950's.

Deanna Durbin was also an important asset in keeping Universal solvent in the latter part of the 1930s.
