I recently, very recently, started watching some Abbott and Costello movies including Buck Privates. I haven't seen any of these movies since I was a kid(gotta love 70s Sunday Afternoon UHF TV) and I have to say my enjoyment of the movies hasn't dimmed, though the plot are simplistic, they're fun and how can you not love Abbott and Costello?
Anyway, one thing stands out for me in re-watching them after many years, the musical numbers. I'd forgotten how much The Andrews Sisters were featured performers in the Early A&C movies. I know they were big back then, but their performances really had a way of grinding whatever plot development there was to a screeching halt. I wonder if one or more of them were dating one of the producers of the movies or something, it's kind of weird how they produced this huge production number to feature The Andrews Sisters to herald A&C's induction into the Army.

I think for the first few movies the producers weren’t sure if Bud and Lou could carry a movie by themselves. I think The Andrews Sisters had some great songs in Buck Privates, and they kept things light between the comedy sections.
