they drive by night colorized
Does anybody know if a colorized version of this movie exists? I had once heard it did and wondered if anybody knows where one could be purchased. Thanks

shareNever heard anything on it being colourised. I was quite satisfied with the B&W myself
shareBlack and white suits the dark mood of the film very nicely. I see no reason for a colorized version.
shareIf I find out that someone's colorized this film, I'll have to hunt him/her down and well...you can probably guess the rest.
shareIf ever a movie was meant to be in black and white, this is the one.

When the o.p. asks a question like that, it suggests to me that he/she is pretty obviously not of my generation ( nor probably not of yours, either ).
shareVery likely the same generation.
Even if I was Raoul Walsh in 1940 and Jack Warner said to me, "We'll give you technicolor if you'd like, Raoul!", I'd have said no on that one.

From viewing your profile, I can see that you have fine taste in cinema.
shareWhy, thank you!

Sadly, TED TURNER colourised it back in the stone age, along with such gems as MALTESE FALCON and DESTINATION TOKYO. Praise Be, the Crayoned bersions disappeared around the time that TCM made its debut. I'll never forgive him for
*beep* up THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT.

I agree. And anyone who thinks "The Maltese Falcon" needs to be colorized should have his head examined.
shareI remember that they "colourised" Alan Hale's white hair by leaving that portion of the picture in BW. It actually made a shimmering line between the pink tinted skin and the BW film. Raft, who actually HAD jet Black hair, had HIS in a deep chocolate brown. GAWD AWFUL!!!
