ridiculous plot twist
The movie is ok up until the point where Mrs. Carlsen goes to the DA to tell him that Fabrini forced her to kill her husband. It loses all credibility after that.

share Don't blame the screenwriters. The doors made them do it. AHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!
I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!
Hewwo.
I like this movie up to the end of the first half when the brothers crash their truck but after that it turns into a film noir & the focus is not so much on Raft & Bogart & becomes dominated by Ida Lupino trying to manipulate Raft's character. It's like 2 movies in one, the first half about truckers on the road comes off much better.
shareI very much agree. And I have always liked Lupino but she was just too overbearing in this movie. I know it was necessary for the plot as otherwise it would have just been a movie without any balance of good or evil and thereby boring. But Lupino gets a bit annoying in this one.
shareI liked Ida Lupino very much in this. And I think she added a lot of "color" to this movie. If the movie had been just about trucking, I'm not sure if it had been very interesting. But I agree with the first poster - it made no sense for her to go to the police to blame Fabrini. They should have come up with some better plot to reach the inevitable happy ending.
shareIt is a weird movie. Starts as a realistic portrayal of truck drivers trying to make ends meet, and ends as a hysterical film noir.
shareI've seen it many times, and that's my exact take on it too.
I like the movie and watch it every time it comes on TCM, but only the beginning half really interests me. Right after they make a good score on the lemons, pay off their truck and suffer the unfortunate accident, I lose interest.
