DVD??
Another classic not available on DVD! Not even shown very much on TV around Christmas.
DVD should include:
Trailer
Lux Radio Theater-Remember the Night 12-21-41
Maybe a Christmas Cartoon or two
Overlooked Holiday classic.

'Taint funny McGee. I agree. How could a classic Preston Sturgis script be so utterly forgotten?
Come blog with me: http://blufftoninthedriftless.blogspot.com/
This is such a great movie, it drives me crazy that it's not available yet on DVD. The dialogue in this is SO good, it has that "Sturges" touch.
As someone else mentioned, it's Preston Sturges most serious movie....and still there's so many funny lines and scenes.
And the DVD should either have something about MacMurray and Stanwyck or the making of the movie. And then it would be perfect.

"I don't think there's anything extraordinary about me except this passion for the truth."
Who owns the rights? Sometimes Amazon will let customers request titles and they lobby the owners, but not for this one. Any other ideas on how to get this on DVD?

Turner Classic Movies has a voting mechanism on its web site to vote for movies to go to DVD. Click on the movie database and then type in Remember the Night and click on Remember the Night when it appears. On the right hand side is a voting box. This movie has moved from about 102 down to 76 since its showing on TCM in December. This is a paramount release. I don't know who owns the rights, but I think Universal(NBC) does.
I bought this on VHS several years ago. It was part of the Barbara Stanwyck Collection that included "Internes Can't Take Money", "The Great Mans Lady" and "The Lady Eve". If anyone still has a machine, I'll bet they can find a copy. It'll do until they get around to the DVD.
"It's as red as the Daily Worker and twice as sore."
I don't know how it is, but I have a DVD of "Remember the Night". Its got the same art work as the VHS copy I had and I remember buying this from Amazon Used Sellers a couple of years ago. Perhaps its a "bootleg" copy with some fancy duplicated artwork from the VHS copy. But it looks great and plays great. I would never have known it wasn't authentic. I guess I got lucky. But then I'm always searching high and low on E-bay and Amazon for Stanwyck's films. I'm happy to say I have all of them except for "The Moonlighter" and "The Bride Wore Boots" which if I ever get out of school and get TCM again, I'll DVR them!
shareIts actually not a movie I care much for, but then I am in that minority that DOESN'T like Stanwyck all that much. I watched it for the Fred MacMurray performance, flawless as always. However a simple search for the title on ebay shows that it IS available on DVD for 19.99 (current price today, 23 Dec, 08)
shareIt is now available through TCM and Amazon. :D
shareTCM announced a new release on DVD with a better transfer:
Turner Classic Movies, Universal and the Library of Congress are proud to present this new DVD release of Remember the Night (1940), featuring—for the first time—a beautiful transfer in crisp black-and-white from an original negative preserved by the Library of Congress.
It's really too bad that TCM doesn't do ANY of their releases on Blu-ray. Great movie, but I'm not buying anymore DVDs.
