I can't believe I'd never heard of this film prior to last year. I've been watching classic films my entire life. Even my mom had never heard of it. I was so glad to see that it was coming on last night and insisted she record it.

I fell completely in love with this film, and especially with FM. I never thought he was particularly more handsome than other actors. But his looks, and the sweet way he speaks to BS especially when her mother has been so cruel to her...sigh.

We're given so much, using so little. A few lines, a look, a teary eye. So much emotion. The scene at BS's childhood home...the scene at the piano...the wedding dress and love letters...so beautiful. Meanwhile there are so many funny lines and moments, too.

I love the scene at the restaurant where they are dancing and talking about their common geographic bond and it hits an emotional chord with Stanwyck. She finds that she can no longer continue and exits the dance floor. The expression on Fred MacMurray's face is one of total understanding and changes the course of the movie. This film is one of my all-time favorites. Fred and Barbara should have received nominations for this film.
