Great book .. not so great a movie.

I read the book The Mortal Storm and thought it was a wonderful story. It concentrated on how intolerance divided and destroyed an otherwise peaceful family. The dissolution of the family was well developed and the characters were painted in more greys than stark black and white. I knew the film was going to have a different storyline, but I was surprised about how everything else was changed. I thought that the older brothers leaving the family was way too quick. It went something like this, "I'm a Nazi. Are you? No? Then I'm moving out. And while I'm at it, I'll beat up my friend that I've known my whole life with the rest of my Nazi posse." Literally, it felt that quick. If you really want to know this story, I suggest reading the book by Phyllis Bottome. It really is an excellent story.
