How stupid are these men?

The husband, hears about the letter and he naively says nothing that casts doubt on her, okay. He's her loving husband.
But that lawyer goes on like she is not a killer even with the existence of the letter. How many truly innocent clients does a defense attorney encounter?

Doesn't matter. A defense attorney's main job is to do anything (legally) to cast doubt as to the client's guilt. At least in the United States, the prosecution has the burden of proof. The defense has nothing to prove.
