What did the man say at the end?

Right after Leslie is killed, the man and woman are stopped by a police officer who shines a flashlight on each one's face. The man says something. I rewound it three times but could not understand what he said. Then the three of them walk off together, but not toward the body (as far as I could tell). What did the man say? And were they under arrest for murder?

I don't believe whatever they said was spoken in English, so I don't believe we were meant to know exactly what was said. I suppose it was something along the lines of them being out after curfew. (As a colonized land, there most likely would have been a curfew in place for the native people.) They were not put under arrest for anything. Just given a warning about the curfew.

I saw a Vietnamese film entitled Scent of The Green Papaya , where the theme was 50's colonial rule. A curfew was mentioned. I also learned recently about the curfew imposed on Algerian immigrants in France during the war. There was a bloody revolt In Paris in 1962, where many were killed by drowning. President Macron laid a wreath this year at the river, where many immigrants perished.

Regarding The Letter, I could not understand the dialogue either, I thought he was congratulating them on killing her. But you could be correct. Did the widow orchestrate the murder, or was it the natives who chose revenge. I guess the victim was well liked.
