Never mind Bette Davis's eyes

How about that rack....she jiggled across the prison hall-must be at least a 34d....

Glad you got some jollies out of a 75 year old movie, you have a keen and discerning eye!

Bette Davis was hard to dress in films, according to Edith Head, as she refused to wear confining underwire bras, believing they caused breast cancer. Thus, the jiggle, as there was nothing sturdy to hold the girls up or mold them into a perky shape.

Edith Head was legendary ....along with her contemporary Adrian. They dressed all the films of the golden age.The film,The Woman-comes to mind with that odd technicolor fashion show Adrian had in the middle of the film.Whenever there are cooky designs in a film,I have to check and see if it were Head or Adrian who are responsible.

Forgot to add-However..Orry-Kelly was responsible for Bette Davis's dress in The Letter...He was another creative mind in the costume design world.

By the look of her bust in some films, she seemed, occasionally, to go without a bra altogether.

I think Davis looked great in this one. Never noticed her breasts.

I know her performance seems a bit melodramatic, but it was the style in 1940 films like this one. She was special.

I'd hate to see someone attempt to remake this.
