The first ten or fifteen minutes are boring

I saw this in a theater packed with kids. Little kids. I thought it was fantastic except for the beginning. Just the silhouettes of the orchestra. No animaition for a while. I was really bored so I can't imagine what the six year olds in the audience thought. And then it got good and then it got great. It was pretty music I guess but little kids don't want to see all that.

Eh, I think I probably found it boring to begin with too. I find it a lot more interesting as an adult though.

Fantasia was enthralling from its opening moments. The use of lighting and segments of animation in Toccata and Fugue in D Minor caught my interest.

I hate to say it, but I have to agree; and I am an adult with a good attention span. Those live scenes with the narrator rambling on ARE boring; for a film like this, we want to get to the animation, which is, of course, the reason anyone watches this film. Through the years there have been re-issues of "Fantasia" that delete or shorten those live, speaking sections. i believe the film just flows better without the interruptions; they break the fantasy, and jar the viewer back to mundane reality..

If that opening was two minutes I'd be fine with it.

I think that the beginning of the film was an important introduction, which sort of explains how and why animation and fantasy can be set to classical music, which is what the whole movie Fantasia is about, overall.
