Psilocybin

There is a legend that the makers of this were under the influence of mushrooms? Anyone else know about this?

reply

It sure seems like they were under the influence of something, doesn't it? But I'm not aware of any evidence (other than this movie itself) that they were.

I can tell you one thing that they were definitely not under the influence of: LSD. It hadn't been invented yet. But 'shrooms? Well, they certainly existed, both the psilocybin and the amanita muscaria. Peyote would be another possibility. Ayahuasca is unlikely, though remotely possible.

I suspect, though, that when you're an artistic genius like Walt Disney, you're just able to come up with stuff sober that other people would be lucky to hit on even with psychedelic enhancement.

I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure you're not Hitler.

Probably not, although they did re-release it in the 1960s with acid trippers in mind. Even made psychedelic posters to promote it. :)
