Too bad there won't ever be a "Pop-tasia."

While I like Fantasia (though haven't seen Fantasia 2000), I'm probably the only idiot who'd be interested in seeing another sequel with animated interpretations of modern pop music genres. Maybe with each segment set to a new original song from a successful artist in each genre. But I know such a film would bomb if it ever got made.

There actually were two in the 1940s: Make Mine Music and Melody Time.

Well, we do have Ralph Bakshi's American Pop from 1981, which is a compilation of sorts, the story of four fictional generations of musicians set to a score of existing famous pop songs.

And Yellow Submarine could be described as a Fab-Tasia (with a plot in between the music sequences).

I don't think your idea is bad at all. Disney did this following the War as Make Mine Music and Melody Time using popular music of that time.
