Nothing personal against John Garfied, but I couldn't help but notice his character in this movie totally reminded me of Jimmy Cagney's many gangster perfomances. Garfield's short-fused, hotshot, toughguy mannerisms in this struck me as an homage to Cagney if I've ever seen one! :o)
shareAgreed. Sticking his hand in someone's face and pushing them away, for example. Until this movie, I've only seen Cagney do that. Ironically, as I was watching it, the film was incredibly familiar to me. Eventually, I saw that it was a remake of a film I had already seen. Based on Garfield's performance, I assumed Cagney was perhaps in the original. Although the original actor was Spencer Tracy, my thought process demonstrates how Cagneyish Garfield's performance was.
