What was it that Doc Boone did?



What was it that he did to make the socialite ladies react in a shocked manner, when he was about to get on the stage coach? Always wondered about that. Any ideas?

Thumbed his nose at them, as I recall. (That was considered pretty racy back then, easily the equivilent of "flipping the bird.")

Whatever Doc did, it was off camera. You don't actually see what he did, just the ladies' reaction. Ford, as he was often inclined to do, left it up to the viewer's imagination.

You actually see the beginnings of the gesture, a quick cut to the startled ladies, and a cut back to Mitchell whose hand is already down.

I always just took it that they were shocked by his general drunkeness, whether he waved farewell, blew them a kiss, or mooned them, the fact that this drunken beast made ANY motion toward them would have shocked those self-righteous hags.
