Evidently John Ford forgot where he began “Stagecoach” and nearly ended it in the same place! Early on, while the cavalry troopers were escorting the stagecoach (along what is now the primary scenic route for self-guided tours through Monument Valley), two unique buttes, Left Mitten and Right Mitten, can be seen in the background. The valley road and the buttes are part of the beautiful scenery visible from the bluff near the Monument Valley Visitor’s Center. I have personally enjoyed the view and driven the same trail as the stagecoach was on. Much later on in the movie, and presumably many miles away from the earlier shots of the stagecoach rushing along the trail, Apache Indians are shown gathering on high ground waiting to attack. In the background Left Mitten and Right Mitten are again clearly visible. From the perspective of this later scene, the stagecoach is obviously again on the same section of trail as earlier in the film. Ford knew what was going on...remember,theatres couldn't pause or reverse like we do with digital copies today.Films weren't so scrutinized .You saw the scene, then it was gone-if you thought something amiss-you had to watch it again....I'm sure it was all intentional, the trivia section mentions how the stagecoach chase went through the valley more than once.

When Wayne goes back to Stage Coach he opens the door. It was hinged on the other side when they were loading and unloading.
