Holy Crap Inspector Krogh was a pervert!

Atwill effectively ruined his burgeoning film career in 1943 after he was implicated in what was described as an "orgy" at his home, naked guests and pornographic films included--and a rape perpetrated during the proceedings. Atwill "lied like a gentleman," it was said, in the court proceedings to protect the identities of his guests and was convicted of perjury and sentenced to five years' probation.

that according to the imdb biography
and than check out this thread on him (not saying its true ..but yuck!)

man!...maybe the monster should of tore off both arms ..if you get what i mean jk ...sad too ..i kinda like the character he portrayed!

Hmmm...I wonder if that had anything to do with his nickname, that all of his close friends knew him by...Pinky (this is true).

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

A very telling quote was also in his IMDB profile: "One side of my face is gentle and kind, incapable of anything but love of my fellow man. The other side, the other profile, is cruel and predatory and evil, incapable of anything but the lusts and dark passions. It all depends on which side of my face is turned toward you--or the camera. It all depends on which side faces the moon at the ebb of the tide."

Very creepy when you find out his secret life. Indeed the monster should have torn off both his arms!

How times change.... orgy at private house would not be criminal now. rape would make him stay much longer....

Was Atwill the rapist, or even aware of it (if it indeed happened)? If not, then he was simply responsible for throwing a "wild" party.

reply

I take it you are all from the USA?

You think wild parties and pornography make someone evil, what year is this 1890?
Oh noes, according to a rumour someone was raped by someone at a party; the host must be evil as well!

The only facts are that Atwill did throw some parties where people drank and had a good time, there was an unproven rumour that someone comitted statutory rape on a minor which had no bases. He did however deny that there were any parties where anything close to an orgy happened, was tried, sentenced and later acquitted of perjury.

I think you lot need to grow up. Atwill was a great actor and it is a shame his career did not go to the heights it should have.

In other words there was no orgy as that is how the law works. If there was an orgy, I do not see why people should give a *beep* It certainly isn't their business.

Agreed.

Yes, the only thing admitted was he owned some stag films and that a Mr. Carpenter, a Ms. Lopez and Ms. Hamalaine did watch them at his house. Ms. Lopez tried to blackmail him which started the whole affair.

My personal Fantasy cast of a Batman movie made in the Early 40s has Atwill as Gordon.

Good choice. Who would you cast as Batman and other famous characters. Orson Welles would have been a great and non-campy Penguin, I think, and Conrad Veidt would be a great choice for the Joker... for obvious reasons!

Rathbone is a top for Bruce. I mostly take people from Universal Horror or Warner Gangster films.

A reasonable cast list; kudos for remembering Slam Bradley.

I've always pictured Edward G. Robinson as a 1940s Penguin, though Dudley Digges s also a good choice. I have to say Paul Muni would be perfect as Sal Maroni.

I can't help but picture as the 1940s Conrad Veidt as the Joker; especially since they drew him to look like Veidt from 'The Man Who Laughs'.

reply

I'd have cast Errol Flynn as Batman.
