Gosford Park

Does anyone agree with me that this film must have been a HUGE influence on Altman's GOSFORD PARK? I mean, granted, this film likely influences all filmmakers, but I think there is a direct conenction between RULES OF THE GAME and GOSFORD PARK. The observation of classes both above and below the stairs, the hunting party, the love affairs, the servant who wants to go a little bit above his class, etc. Anyone else agree?

STWIKE HIM CENTUWIAN, VERY WUFFLY!

It was a remake

This were my first thoughts during the screening.

Not really a remake, more like a rip-off. And Altman did not hide it.

I can see where you're coming from. Oddly, I hated Gosford Park and loved this.

Just saw Rules of the Game for the first time today. Thought it was great. But the entire time I was watching I could have sworn I'd seen this movie before. Then about 30 minutes in I realized I was thinking of Gosford Park. I'd liked Gosford Park, but I'd really like to see it again now having seen this.

And Gosford Park definitely was not a remake, but Rules of the Game was clearly an enormous influence.
