why did those men care if him and christine were kissing?

Because Shumahcer and Marceu thought Christine was Lissete (Christine was wearing Lissete's jacket)

And Octave had thoughtfully pulled up the hood, so it was even more difficult to identify who was inside.

And this isn't the only time the trope of mistaken identity due to somebody else's outerwear appears. It happens all over again not much later when Octave lends Andre his coat.
