Similarities to Wizard of Oz

The scene when Aunt Dem visits and Gramps argues with Granny is almost identically staged like the scene in Wizard of Oz when Elmira Gulch arrives to take Toto to the sheriff.

Dem & Miss Gulch even look and dress alike.

Both films came out in 1939. I wonder who stole from whom?

I think it's more that the meddling do-gooder busybody who doesn't realize her own wickedness is a stock figure. You see similar characters in a lot of old movies, like the woman who wanted to send all the vaudeville performers' children to the state home in Babes in Arms.
