Lon Chaney, Jr.
I know it was a tough year as far as competition goes, but Lon Chaney, Jr. at least deserved an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor. Anyone agree?

sharedefinitely, Chaney never got the roles he deserved, this one though was made for him and he was fabulous...should have got an award nomination.

yes, definitely! if it weren't for the great year of 1939, i could see him being nominated in a different time and possibly winning as well.
shareAbsolutely. This was the finest performance of Chaney Jr's career. There are several examples of wonderful performances throughout the years that were overlooked, for a variety of reasons, by the Academy. This is surely one of them.
Remember When Movies Didn't Have To Be Politically Correct?
Lon was just incredible. The finale, whenever I watch this film I'll replay his final act 10 times or more. Just so sad.

I think he was good here, but I still like him better as Lawrence Talbot. The problem I have with people going gaga over any actor in this type of role was accurately explained in the movie "Tropic Thunder"
