The Temple that is the Lincoln Memorial

I last visited Washington DC on vacation over 10 years ago and spent many hours at several of the monuments and museums but I most remember my time at the Lincoln Memorial. From the moment you enter the main structure, it is almost like a secular temple from the lighting (both natural and assisted) and layout that makes it very hallowed and other worldly. Watching "Mr. Smith" and the scene where Smith flees from the hearing to the refuge of the Memorial reminded me of the feeling I had when I stood at the shadow the statue of our 16th President.

Has anyone else had the same impression?

What an awful thing to say.

A heart can be broken, but it still keeps a-beatin' just the same.

The thing is even more impressive at night.
When I saw it they had put the Lincoln head back on.
