When Mr. Smith is surrounded by reporters the first time in Washington, the one to his right asks if he knows any bird calls. I know I've seen that guy in some other shows. I looked through all the cast marked as "Reporter" or "Newsman" and that didn't ring any bells. Who is that actor, please?
