Line in Movie Borrowed From Disraeli

In the scene in the movie when the Guru seeks to disparage British military strategy, cunning and the idea of their great superiority, he invokes the name of a great Indian leader saying, "You seem to think warfare an English invention. Have you never heard of Chandragupta Maurya? He slaughtered all the armies left in India by Alexander the Great. India was a mighty nation then while Englishmen still dwelt in caves and painted themselves blue."

Actually that line was appropriated from the great British statesman Benjamin Disraeli. During a debate in parliament a rather nasty chap made a comment disparaging Disraeli as to his Jewish background. Disraeli responded by saying something like, back when the ancestors of the right honorable gentleman were still roaming the forests of the British Isles and painting their faces blue, my ancestors were presenting to humanity the Bible and introducing into the world the concept of one G-d.

The Spencer family were a family of wealthy sheep farmers who became noble at a relatively late date in English history.

In a parliamentary debate in the 1600s the current Lord Spencer mentioned some historical events and was interrupted by a snobbish lord who said that while those events were transpiring Lord Spencer's ancestors were herding sheep. Lord Spencer replied that while his ancestors were herding sheep the other lord's ancestors were plotting treason.

A somewhat similar story.

So is that why Dizzy converted to the Church of England?
