Characters inspired by Rhett Butler
I know Han Solo was supposed to have been heavily inspired by Rhett Butler, with even one of the Star Wars posters copying Gone with the Wind and some dialogue lifted too.
More recently Star Trek also introduced a self made (space) smuggler with a heart of gold who enjoys cigars.
