DON'T WRITE TO PARAMOUNT FOR DVD RELEASE

In 1958 Paramount foolishly sold the rights to it's entire library of films made between 1929 and 1949 to MCA - the parent company of Universal Pictures. MCA then released the films to television as they saw fit. Paramount has nothing to do with what is released for any purpose whatsoever, and that includes The Cat and the Canary. If you want to see an old Paramount Picture released onto video then you must try to convince MCA to do it, which is not easily done. There are some things that eventually make it onto DVD, but there is a wealth of material that will sadly never see the light of day. Good luck.

It just so happened that Universal themselves made the 1927 version. Why they didn't release both that and the '39 versions in a 2-pack is beyond me.
