DVD

I've heard nothing but terrible things about the DVD Transfer of this film. I've heard the same about such other classic transfers such as The Awful Truth and Talk of the Town starring Cary Grant. I Have also heard that the Awful Truth is currently being worked on to be rereleased in the near future. Has anyone heard such things about You Can't Take it with You?

-And just because I just about can't wait any longer, is the this current DVD really that terrible? Thanks for the help.

The copy I have isn't too bad. It didn't cost much either.

I know this response is a bit late, but I just rented the DVD from Netflix. I must say that I am really disappointed with the quality. The sound isn't very great, but that just might be my TV. I noticed, though, that at least one point in the film is actually missing audio. Also, many of the close-up shots are blurry. It's really a shame, too, because I love this movie. I'm crossing my fingers for a restored special edition!

i was wondering the same thing about the film. the film transfer is horrible! i missed most of the dialogue in the early parts of the film because i simply couldn't understand it. i cranked the volume up on my tv for the remainder of the film but many parts were still inaudible. by the way, my copy was from netflix as well.

Thankfully, there is a new Frank Capra Collection being released 5 December this year. It will include an all new digitally restored version of You Can't Take It with You, along with four other films and a documentary about Capra.
