Byington - Oscar nominination - I don't think so

Top notch movie and direction but to have SB have the only acting nomination seems odd. She was not either a central character nor did her acting seem significant. Could her character being the only semi-normal character of the extended family justify a nomination?

Byington was ubiquitous in the three years leading up to YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU, with supporting roles in nearly 40 films. No doubt her popularity at the moment of costarring in the year's "Best Picture" played a part in her nomination.
