Okay, so this film is all about a cricket match in Manchester.

The two cricket fans are desperate to go & watch the test match, but are thwarted over & over again by an apparently missing old lady and some bad guys.

They finally arrive where they need to be and .....

The cricket match has been cancelled!!

I'll tell you something - I've seen some plot twists in my time, but THAT was unbelievably cunning & a total surprise.

As well, an historical fact. That match was called due to rain.

It was a hilarious moment, with their dumbfounded expressions when they see the sign saying it was cancelled. They risked life and limb to get back to England, only for rain to ruin it (rain in England... How unexpected LoL).

And the other poster is right, the match was abandoned without a ball bowled. It meant that both England and Australia drew in their test matches, and the Aussies retained the Ashes that year. Interestingly, this puts the date of the events in the movie somewhere between July 8th-12th of 1938.
