5/10. Here's why:
I don't think CHILD BRIDE is one of the worst ever made (like most people do). Not even close. There's only 2 or 3 moments of Ed Wood-quality. Yes, the budget is clearly low, but it's not painfully obvious once you get into the story. Although the performances are weak (mainly Bob Bollinger's), the drama is effective. This movie is infamous for a scene where Shirley Mills, the 12-year-old lead, swims naked, which contradicts the message. It lasts 1 maybe 2 minutes, and by the end the message is still delivered, so the whole movie shouldn't be condemned because of that scene. What a *beep* ending! Were there any scheduling problems? I mean, why end the movie with JAKE dead if the anti-child marriage law had passed? Because it would make it look like a happy ending? Even if that was the case, what's the point of having ANGELO shoot JAKE? And having JENNIE think FREDDIE had done it? By the way, even FREDDIE isn't dumb enough to think that he had shot him, but JENNIE thinks that and he was so happy to see her that it didn't occur to him to tell her the truth. Well, he'll eventually have to... when JAKE's murder investigation starts.
