I NEVER kinew that the 80's movie Stella was based on this one

I was watching the near ending of "Anastasia" earlier tonight and after it was over, then this woman did a quick narration about her admiration for Barbara Stanwyck and the various movies that Barbara Stanwyck played in and one of them was "Stella Dallas" being mentioned briefly.

I had NO idea that the 80's movie with Bet Midler, "Stella," was based on this original 1937 movie! 
