Lost Horizon Found

A few weeks ago I was having a conversation with my sister about childhood movies that we had watched together on TV and haven't seen in years such as Lost Horizon. I thought I would try to locate a copy but forgot about it. Last week I wandered into Borders book store and thought I would ask if they happen to have it in stock. The guy behind the counter went to look at the computer screen and then suddenly picked up a DVD-face down on the counter and held it up- "Is this the movie"? he asked. Sure enough, here was Lost Horizon- the original B&W 1938 movie, with a posted note on it saying that it was found in the Travel Section in error.

Now, what are the chances of that????

There are no accidents nor coincidents in life, only our false perception of them. The Univese is ordered exactly. Chaos is a misperception caused by the fractional vision.

That's so true!!

Wow, what a coincidence, you found a DVD in a shop that sells DVD's!! What's the odds of that eh!?

reply

I guess someone missed the part in the story where the DVD was ALREADY ON THE COUNTER **BEFORE** S/HE CAME IN to ask for it....

merrywood got it right. I only wish I'd kept a written record of the times this sort of thing has happened to me. Enchantment or magic or synchronicity or whatever construct you may put on it is all around us. We (most of us) just don't catch it much of the time.

Sounds like a great idea. You should also keep track of the times it doesn't happen. Searching 10 minutes for that parking place, looking for the "lost keys" that are actually in your pocket, making an illegal turn with no cop around, finding things where they were supposed to be, etc.

What you'll find is that statistically it doesn't really happen all that often. In fact, the less frequently it happens the more amazing, and therefore memorable, it is. In other words, the more boring your existence the more exciting these moments become.
