top 250

If this movie has a 8.0 rating how come it's not on the top 250? I loved this movie!

In June 2003 when I 1st registered with IMDb, it was in the TOP 250. A lot of the older films fell out.

It's not just about rating but also about how many rating it has, which is obviously the most sensical way to do it.

"My Man Godfrey" is truly one of the greatest Romantic Comedies films of the 20th century. Between comedy and romance, there is great amount of moral fibre throughout this movie.

The film's theme can best be stated by Godfrey's own words: "The only difference between a man and a derelict is a job.."

William Powell magnificently plays Godfrey, the butler who everyone eventually looks upto. The cast is excellant. Carole Lombard plays Irene Bullock and does an amazing job. Eugene Palette and Alice Brady who play, Alexander and Angelica Bullock, both do an amazing job as well. Gail Patrick also does great work as Cornelia Bullock, the uptight and bratty sister of Irene.

Jean Dixon and Mischa Auer absolutely steal the show as the Bullocks' hysterical maid and protégé (respectively). The film is definitely a 10...rent it today!

I really do think that films like this need to be shown quite often. As classic such as this as being missed by this generation. It is that good. In fact I have rated this as a 10 rating.

I am glad that I have this film in my collection. The jokes throughtout this film are so snappy. And the scarcasim so spot on..

Please, please watch this film...

Hollywood if your reading this. This is how Romatic Comedies should be made!!

I agree with you. One of the best romantic comedies, although I wish Godfrey was a little more happy to be with Irene in the end, rather than seeeming to just give in to her and the minister.
Bringing up Baby, It Happened One Night, The Shop Around the Corner, Philadelphia Story etc etc are in that category for me too.

I am glad that some one seems to aggree with me. I would love to see a re-make of this film though. But I fear that it wouldn't have the same pizzazz as the original version. I don't think that the scarcasim and snappy jokes would seem the same. Maybe its too much of a generation gap.

But this movie will be watched again over the christmas period I can tell you. You too should watch it again. It will bring a smile to your face. It makes you want to take care of Carole Lombard. Its that type of feel good, smiley type movie...

I am glad I've got this in my locker!
