Where was Modern Times filmed?

Specifically the scenes where Charlie and his girl have that shack. Any ideas where those scenes were filmed? It is an obvious wetlands type of area with what looked to be a power plant in the background. I was unable to read the name on the power plant.
Any thoughts?

There's a nice film essay discussing and showing the locations Chaplin used in Modern Times. It's included in the Criterion release of the film (http://www.criterion.com/films/27526-modern-times).

Film historian John Bengston uses clips, stills, and maps to discuss the history of the L.A. (and environs) locations. You might be interested in Bengston's book: Silent Traces: Discovering Early Hollywood Through the Films of Charlie Chaplin.

That's Terminal Island.
