THIS MOVIE IS SAD

Did anyone else find this movie extremenly actual even to this days (or even more) and also very sad?
It's very funny to, but also so sad.
Or am I the only one? I haven't watched many chaplin movies, are they all so deep?
I always thoght chaplin was just some slapstick comedy...

Yes it is sad -- poverty, losing individuality, the little guy vs. the big corporation. But Chaplin puts this social commentary into a framework of comedy to make us laugh while we are getting the sad truth about "modern times."

Chaplin is a lot more than slapstick. he is a deep thinker and its reflected in his movies. after watching the great dictator i was totally impressed with him. the final speech is very powerful, deep and touching. then i got interested and i watched city lights, gold rush and modern times. he leaves a message with every film that leaves an impression on the viewers. have to watch the remaining movies.

Yes it's a sad commentary on the plight of the 'working' class.
But remember the Tramp advised the girl to smile, and to not give up.

No - not really about the plight of the working class. More about the plight of the street people who just can't make anything work except for love. You people want to make this out to be WAY more political than it is meant to be. Kinda like Hoover did, I suppose.
