This material can't be "remade." It is of its place and time. Modern audiences would be quite uncomfortable with the endless succession of stereotypes and the "childlike" Negroes depicted.

What would be the point? This movie was made in a time when it needed to be made. I'm not sure there would be any advantage to doing another of its type today. If it were made it would have to be a spoof but given the level of Political Correctness we have today, it doesn't matter who made it, some people would object vehemently.
Sadly, this kind of movie would be much riskier to make today than it was in 1936. I suspect this time around it would be a resounding failure as well. Race is a sensitive issue; probably more today than ever before.
