I was happy (spoilers)

I was so happy that he ended up leaving her and going back to Edith. His wife was so self centered she didn't even want anything to do with him when she thought she could have a new young husband. He was noble in trying to do the right thing and return to America with her in the end but I'm glad he came to his senses and returned to happiness. It showed to that age is nothing but a number and its all about how happy you are..because when he was miserable with her he seemed old and tired, but with his new girlfriend he was excited and full of energy. Even the way she kept complaining about the door being open in the smoking room showed how she only thought of herself. She told him he was going to have to go get her wrap if he didn't keep closing the door. All her negativity is what made him decide to leave and I was so happy he did.
Also when he told his new girlfriend that a man's habits are hard to break after twenty years really says a lot about why some people stay together. Its a habit, things are a certain way and its hard to do it differently.

I liked the line he said to her as he was leaving: "Love has got to stop someplace short of suicide".

Great movie and great ending!

Yes, Daisy, yes. This film is ageless. I'm DVR'ing as I type this, even though I've watched it a 1/2 dozen times. I'll watch it late tonight.

It is a masterpiece.

His wife does a superlative job in this role. She's at turns ravishing, maddening and stunningly gorgeous, on & on. She poured her heart & soul into this and we're the beneficiaries of her dedication to craft. Bless-her-soul.

Daisy, your review is the absolute goods. You cover the gamut of what has taken place in the running time of this motion picture. Bully, bully for you. I'll cite you late of a Thursday evening, on the verge of yet another Friday. You have achieved a Direct Hit. You the girl!
