Will someone restore the 78 minute version already?

I know it's not my money to spend, but I wish some video company would take the 78 minute version under their wing and restore it. A colorized version would be cool to. Maybe a ultimate Scrooge/Christmas Carol edition that could also feature some of the silent versions including the one with Seymour Hicks (he also happens to be in this 1935 version).

I've got my cash in hand, ready for such a product, there is an audience for it. Based on the fact that a new one comes out every few years or so trying to recapture the magic with mixed results. It would be wise to invest in this interesting version.

As is, warts and all, this one does make my top five, along with 1951, 1938, 1999 and the animated version from 1971, For the record the 1971 animated edition features Alastair Sim and Michael Hordern (Scrooge and Marley from the 1951 edition) as voice talent in their proper roles. This would be another fine candidate for my ultimate set, since they didn't bother to put it in the 1951 Ultimate edition.

I do not like the colouring in suggestion but I do not see why someone should not take advantage of the 78 minute version and try and restore it for a home entertainment release.

It would certainly be worth the investment in the UK where the film will remain in copyright until the year 2055. The 78 minute version is not in the public domain in the US if the original release was 63 minutes so copyright could be held for the 78 minute version in the US too.

The version on YouTube is 1:17:36 (77 min 36 sec). I think it's not under copyright in the United States. There could be some cheap DVDs out there of this version of "Scrooge".

Time Warner Classics cable is broadcasting the black/white 78 minute version this week.
