I just don't get the hype.

I have no complaints (within the context of this movie) about racism, idealogy, or really anything other than this movie is a whole bunch of pass-in-review, with a few (very few) speeches interspersed. It's not even a remotely interesting view of historical Germanic countryside. It's just marching. And marching. And marching. And marching. And marching. And marching. And marching. And marching. And marching. Or is someone seeing a version of this that I'm not?

The propaganda is very subtle, like all good propaganda should be.

I was wondering myself if I should take a look, just from a media-interest perspective of course. I think you answered my question.

"Triumph of the Will" is a cinematic eye-opener .. if you're into Star Wars and/or Steven Spielberg films. There are tons of shots in that old propaganda-flick that both Lucas and Spielberg ripped off during their careers. While I wouldn't recommend the film as "entertainment" (especially the second half when all the hate-speeches start), it's certainly very interesting as a historical piece and in how it influences movie making to this day.

Plus it's interesting because it offers a glimpse of what Germany looked like before the war. I for one only bought the DVD when I moved to Nuremberg ... simply to see what the city looked like before it got the crap bombed out of it.
