DVD quality edition?

i've seen two editions of this movie (elstree hill and GMVS)and both are of sub-standard audio and video. can anyone recommend a superior edition perhaps not up to "criterion" standards but just so that in those scenes that have close-ups of hand written notes that they are entirely readable.

There is none out at the moment. "Of Human Bondage" is public domain, and so far the only DVDs that have been issued of it are real crap jobs. The picture quality is grainy and blurry at times and the sound reminds me of turn-of-the-century wax cylinder recordings (only slightly more coherant at times). I own two different DVDs of this movie, the ones released by Alpha Video and Synergy (released this year so I was hoping for a decent restoration). Of the two Synergy is slightly better, only not by much.

Since the film was made at RKO, and the release rights to RKO are now controlled by Warners, I am waiting for an official, good-quality Warners release of this great movie. I had hoped it would be included in the recently announced "Bette Davis Collection Vol. 3" but no luck yet. I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed for when Vol. 4 comes out.

Since it has taken this long and they still haven't made a good restored DVD version of this, I don't think it's likely they will. How much demand is there for it anyway? I see lots of people who express their want for it, but how many of these people have written to Warner Brothers about it?
