What a find

I found this film at a local Goodwill Store, new still in package for 55 cents. I knew I was taking a chance but the folder said "digitally remastered". What a wonderful copy of this film. Clear picture, great sound. Obviously there is evidence that this is a 70+ year old film, but it was easy to watch and enjoyable. I found a total of 5 new movies for .55 cents each. The three I've watched have been beautifully restored. I guess I was in the right place at the right time.

Good for you obx. You were in the right place at the right time but give yourself some credit because you did take the time to be there and be alert to the great find.

reply

I love finds like that. Some of my favorite old movies were found in bargain racks and such. YOu did well.

I picked up a 4-DVD set of Alfred Hitchcock movies, of which this is one of them, for $5. I am not interested in watching them all, but did like The Lady Vanishes, 38 Steps and The Man Who Knew Too Much. A good find indeed.

I just bought (probably) the same set today for $5 at the Big Box store. I can't wait to rip the plastic off of it and engage in a non-stop orgy of classic Hitchcock. My wife, on the other hand . . . . .

It's a shame y'all don't live in the UK because The Times newspaper and UK newsagent WH Smith have given readers 7 Hitchcock DVD's this past week! All early in Hitch's career but who's gonna turn down freebies of:

The 39 Steps
The Man Who Knew Too Much
Sabotage
Secret Agent
Young and Innocent
Jamaica Inn
AND
The Lady Vanishes

all in slip cases with the orginal 30's poster art on the covers...yippee!

reply

We just watched a $1 special version and the quality was very poor. I was thinking that surely this classic would've been remastered/restored. Evidently the public domain version hasn't been.

you be surprised what you find at a Goodwill,, I know because my old lady works there.

are you going to bark all day little doggie,, or are you going to bite

reply

I got a cheap DVD box set of some of his early British films too. Haven't watched them all yet, but I did enjoy The 39 Steps, The Lady Vanishes, and TMWKTM a lot
