I just realized.......

I just watched this again today. Been watching it since I was a kid, probably seen it 30 times.

And I think I just saw something on this viewing I never noticed.

During the final battle, as the soldiers are crushing the bogeymen, Silas Barnaby runs into a house made of blocks. Things start falling and 3 blocks spell out R-A-T. I never realized that Barnaby was probably killed in that collapse. Am I correct?

Wow, I never thought of that. I do the same, watch every year, but I am not 30 or more years old, so I have only seen it roughly 15 times. I just watched it too, but I did not pay much attention to that. I would have to see it again and pay closer attention. I can't think if he appears any more after that... you may be right, or maybe he was just trapped and they were going to deal with him later, I don't know.

When I noticed it, I didn't see Barnaby after that. The villagers just pushed the Bogeymen into the river, but I'm definitely going to need to see it again to judge.

I have to admit, I'm a huge dork and am obsessed with this movie. I've probably seen it 100 times, (I'm 24 years old so about 5 times per Christmas season) and I now that you mentioned it, I just realized that as well.

I used to think that he got pushed into the river along with the boogeymen.

Don't read this

You guys are nuts. Barnaby got trapped (like a rat!), not killed! He disappears into a little block-house through a door. The giant blocks that fall and spell R-A-T fall in front of the door blocking him inside the little block-house. Those giant blocks do not fall on top of him and kill him.

I suppose you also never noticed the wooden soldier that loses his head rescueing a child from the Bogeymen?

Howdy

While i dont think the collapse of the alphabet house kills barnaby, he is trapped in there because the blocks fall ontop of him.. The letter A falls over his head and top hat.. R and T fall on his left and right side thus spelling RAT .. big bait cathes big rat :) so i would say Barnaby was trapped in the house .. i would have loved to see to see a sequel to that movie if it was done right.... i think it would have been great :)
