I know this movie is on every Thanksgiving and Christmas Day on Channel 11 (the old WPIX, now its the new CW) in New York.
Could someone please tell me what channels it is on in other parts of the country? And if it is an affiliate of one of the major networks?
Also, on Christmas Day, does anyone else (besides New York) get the yule log? Basically it's just a fireplace going with Christmas music playing in the back.
I, too, used to watch MARCH OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS, a/k/a BABES IN TOYLAND, on WPIX, Channel 11, when I lived in New York City. My introduction to it was Thanksgiving Day of 1969, and from then on, was a big fan of Laurel and Hardy. Channel 9, (WOR) in New York, used to air their short subjects every Saturday morning until 1970, and features such as WAY OUT WEST (1937) on the Sunday afternoon movie. It appeared that BABES IN TOYLAND will be airing on PIX indefinitely, since it's an annual event. I believe it ceased showing it around 1990, six years after packing up my belongings and moving to Florida near the Orlando area. My first Christmas in Florida in 1984 did find BABES IN TOYLAND airing on WOFL, Channel 35. I thought, WOW, I can still see this even at a far away land of Orlando!! Sadly, I believe it never was rebroadcast since. It might have been an annual event on that station prior to that. By 1987 or 88, Channel 35 converted to FOX, and all the late night movie classics disappeared, entirely by 1989, in favor of more newer programming. Cable station such as American Movie Classics picked up the rights to BABES IN TOYLAND, aired under its reissue title, in 1996. Now the only way to obtain a copy is to get an old GoodTimes VHS 1991 copy (colorized) or black and white versions through other distributors, either in VHS or DVD. I gather Turner Classic Movies might be the next option for them to show it on TV again, in its original form, and possibly an annual event like THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939) which has played every year on the 4th of July weekend for the past five years now. Some day ....
