So this is for sure the creepy movie where a cat plays the cello and Mickey Mouse looking this is on the ground?

reply

Yes sir, in all it's disturbing glory.

yeah the cat AND the mouse look creepy but even though it seems a cello I think it is supposed to be a fiddle as in "Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle."

I have never once thought of the Cat or Mouse as being creepy. If you want to talk about someone creepy in this movie, that guy that short guy that stands next to Barnaby while he asks Bo Peep to marry him... thats a creep.

The cat always scares me

Don't read this

The cat is so surreal looking.
It looks so unatural.
I can't figure out how they got it to move (to small for a human to be in costume).
It looks like some type of demented toy that came to life in a David Lynch movie.

The whole THING is just so disturbingly creepy -- the sound, the cinematography, god knows the costumes and lighting, even those characters' movements.. shudder ..

Mickey Mouse was played by a monkey. I don't know about the cat.

The cat was played by a man, he's listed on the credits.

Sort of the inspiration of "Itchy and Scratchy" cartoons as seen in the Simpsons. Apparently the cat wants to be friends and have peace, but the mouse constantly attacks him....inn this case with bricks to the head. The poor cat just can never win!!

Itchy and Scratchy is more of a nod to Krazy Kat

Hey I got the "Itchy and Scratchy" vibe today too without thinking of Krazy Kat. Think I&S came to mind with the beaning by brick from mouse and they being a pair. Always thought of Kat a loner with being the unfortunate love for the cop. I&S just seemed more a couple.
What did surprise me was how much Mickey Mouse was in the mouse's design.
When cat was down on all fours it did look like human actor which even to kids probably softened the scene for them.
Bit spooky was all the dark underground effects. Kind of hellish place alongside the bright colors of Toyland. Good way to keep kids in line.
Step to the dark side and away goes all the fun and games - can't have both unless one of the .001% Nice memories. And Laurel in drag! Way to get the little ones ready for alternate reality of show biz make believe.

The monkey/mouse looks genuinely scared the first time we see it, running away from the cat. He looks over his shoulder and stumbles to the ground, then carries on running. I watched it over and over to see if it was a puppet.

They stuck it in a costume (including a mask that covered its head), and had it chased around the set by a giant cat - do you think they'd get away with that nowadays?

Awight we're The Daamned we're a punk baand and this is called Carn't Be Appy T'day!

reply

"Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle". Now a fiddle is like a violin but since it's an actor in a costume I suppose a cello would've been better size-wise.

There are SO many nursery rhymes that wasn't included, but there you are.

A cat playing cello or a cello playing cat?

It reminds me of that joke - "Have you ever seen a man eating lion?" "No, but I've seen a man eating hamburger!"

And so forth.
