Ok, WPIX - Now Let's Get it Right This Year!!

Ok, so here we are in August...

Assuming somebody is already thinking about the Holiday Programming season.

So...let's get it right this time, somebody's going to plug this classic show back into Thanksgiving morning, right?

Somebody's going to be put in charge this year that will have even the slightest knowledge of this tradition, right?

Plenty of lead time here...let's not let this be missed opportunity again.
This is the easy stuff....

Great news- I just checked the TV schedule for WPIX. Its playing on Thanksgiving morning!!! This made my day! Thank heavens they're playing it- I was so disappointed last year that I actually wrote a VERY angry letter to them about how important this tradition was and how upset I was that they'd broken it. I'm sure I wasn't the only one to do this, and I'm so glad that they took the hint. A few years back I remember Channel 11 played this movie on Thanksgiving morning AND on Christmas morning. I'd love to see that again!!!
Its so nice to see that so many people care about this special film just as much as I do- it means a great deal to me and it was a huge part of my childhood and my family's traditions. My favorite part of Thanksgiving isn't watching the parade, or eating turkey, or having pumpkin pie... Its reliving 'March of the Wooden Soldiers' early in the morning, the same way I've been doing for years ever since I was a little kid.

SO glad they are showing it. WPIX was always a part of the family tradition at this time of the year Thanksgiving morning with Laurel & Hardy and Christmas morning with the yule log.
So glad it'll be back on!
There's just a possibility that I will kiss a doorknob.

Always one of the highlights of the holiday and the great thing as a kid was it was over before the younger cousins came and invaded the house.

I don't know if any of you guys and gals get the "other" PIX channel, 11-3 ("This TV") but they are also playing it this evening at 8 pm. Have a wonderful holiday, all ! ("Just like two peas in a pod-uh") ; )

I agree with with all of the sentiment in this thread. This movie is part of my Thanksgiving kick-off. Have watched MOTWS every year as a holiday tradition. Even bought the DVD a few years ago when it wasn't broadcast. I love to have it on while prepping the turkey. Glad to see that WPIX has returned to the traditional roots. It's 8:35 AM and just a few minutes until it starts. I can hardly wait!!!

Now, let's see if they can bring back the Yule Log on 12/24. And while we're at at it, let's get WOR-9 to start show King Kong/Son of Kong/Might Joe Young (1949 version) on Thanksgiving once again!

reply

They did, but how about not showing it colorized? Colorization is wrong and should not be watched.

I am so glad that they are starting the tradition again in the NYC area. I remember watching the movie like clockwork every Thanksgiving morning they use to always start it at 11;30 am. Now, if they could bring back the old Abbott and Costello movies at the same time every Saturday it would be great?

reply

I don't get it. In this age of the dvd, why would anyone want to watch this colorized and with 40 minutes of commercials. You couldn't pay me. It's the day after Thanksgiving and I just sat and watched, at a convenient time, my black and white dvd of this film. WPIX's version isn't even on my radar.

Wow, what a coincidence. I have never visited this board but just today on another IMDb board I asked if anybody remembered WPIX showing March of the Wooden Soldiers on Thanksgiving. I have not been to the NY area for many years but remember this tradition fondly. This made me decide to visit this board and the first thing I see is the WPIX thread.

I bought this movie on VHS years ago and I still watch it every Thanksgiving. I guess I should get the DVD sometime.

Get with the program! Now you need the 3-D BluRay!! :)

^ lol. I think that WPIX got so many complaints the year that they didn't show it (2009) that I don't think they will be dumb enough to not show it on Thanksgiving for many years to come. Odds are that someone new was put in charge. Someone who had no respect for holidays or tradition who put his/her own stupid belief ahead of what the masses expect. People love tradition and it is very good that WPIX decided to respect this one. Unfortunately, WOR still doesn't have King Kong/ Son of Kong/Godzilla/ Mighty Joe Young marathons and I really believe that that is another tradition that is sorely missed in the Tristate area.

Memories, you're talking about memories.

2014 ... And the tradition moves on one more year ... NYC thank you WPIX

I will sorely miss this tradition when I move out of the tristate area. It is one of the few traditions that is still left.

All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
