Well, it looks nice...


The Blu-Ray with a tinted sequence does look good. But...

A good cast that seem mostly wasted. Lionel Atwill is a relatively subtle mad doctor with a fairly dull secret (pulsing sponge in a fishtank needs blood). Fay Wray has virtually nothing to do. Dwight Frye is the innocent madman who will inevitably come to a sorry end. There are a few great shots, a few good moments and a bit too much "comic relief" (film ends on a laxative joke).

One thing about the film is amusingly appropriate. It fits perfectly the pulp fiction category of "Weird Menace", a type of fiction characterized by seemingly supernatural occurrences explained rationally... Except that the rational explanation is often quite preposterous - in this case it's not vampires but requires telepathic mind control.
