Where can Movie be found

I watched this movie as a young child and it has always been with me. I have told my wife and kids about the movie and would love to find a copy of the 1933 version if possible. I have searched the internet and have had no luck. Should anyone have any ideas as to where one could find a copy please drop me a line and let me know. Thanks for your time and I await any and all responses. I can be reached at [email protected]. thanks again

Hi Garry,

Did you get any responses to this, or have you been able to find this movie? My mother has been requesting this video for years and I have not been able to find it for her either. Any insight on how I can find this for her is appreciated.

Go to www.forgottenfilms.biz. They have it available on DVD or VHS. It cost me around $15 which includes shipping. Check out the site - they have all sorts of rare stuff.

Has anyone received their DVD of Alice? I'm just wondering how the quality is, and if you were happy with your order. I love this movie, and would love to get a DVD. Thanks!

I have been looking for this movie, too!! Since I was ten or younger! I don't remember where I saw it... but it was the strangest thing to me then.. and one day I went to rent it again, and ended up with some stupid animated version. I remember making my grandmother take me around asking for the version with "real people." I'm not 100% positive this is the one though - at the end does Alice run across tables or something, from the Jabberwocky? I'm almost 27 now, so its been a LONG time. I remember her and the looking glass in a little room. I'm going to keep researching it, and I will check out that website, too. Thanks :)

Forgotten films has just upgraded their offering of this title with a transfer from a 16mm film print. I've just placed an order for it. The regular price has been raised to $20. But they're offering the upgraded version for $10 to newsletter members this week (from a newsletter dated July 25, 2006). The specially priced upgraded version is available here:

Thought I'd put in my two-cents worth.
I've just received this 16mm, 1933, version on DVD and it's far superior to any of the previous issues.
A curious thing about it though is its length --- it's not 76 minutes but 1 hour, 5 minutes long.
It's worth the price and can be bought in DVD format from:
www.forgottenfilms.biz
Check 'em out, they've got a sizable inventory of old films.
Cheers,
Fred

The forgottenfilms transfer from 16mm film was initially missing the scenes with W.C. Fields as Humpty Dumpty and Gary Cooper as the White Knight, but these have been added from their previous offering I believe. There's a lot of audio clipping in those scenes. The film part is rather dark and grainy.

There's also a version available on DVD for purchase or rental from classicflix.com (now called silverscreenarchive.com). It's a little low on bitrate - only takes up half a DVD5, but it seems to be as good a copy as the one uploaded to youtube by another poster in another thread on this board.

SO, which DVD is the better buy in terms of quality? The forgottenfilms.biz copy or the silverscreenarchive.com sopy?

reply

I prefer the the silverscreenarchive.com version. Despite being a little low on bitrate it has more detail and the audio is good. It appears to be a transfer from a first genaration VHS tape.

On the forgottenfilms.biz version the parts added from their previous offering appear to be from a multiple generation VHS copy, the tone doesn't match that of the 16mm film transfer, and I find the audio clipping annoying.
