Great film!

I watched this last night on DVD and I loved it. It was great seeing actors from the 1930's like Paul Muni, George Raft, Boris Karloff, Osgood Perkins, among others.

Too bad he got shot at the end of the film.

Agreed.

There were a number of gangster films that ended with the main character meeting his end. It was the only way a movie showcasing a criminal could get past the censors, to show that a life of crime didn't pay.
