This is being shown on TCM today at 6:00

It's coiming on in 15 minutes. I can't wait to see it. I have never seen the original version but I love the DePalma version.

Yeah... I also just saw it for the first time. Its good but it just seems so dated compared to the remake. But I liked certain things about it more than the remake. For one thing, George Raft`s performance as Tony`s sidekick, Guino, was probably the best acting job in the whole film. He was much better than 'Manny' was in the remake. George just had that wiseguy/gangster style down pat. I would like to see some other gangster films that he was in. That is, if he made any? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Its hard to compare the rest of the cast to the remake... I think its just too difficult to say who did better between Al Pacino and Paul Muni but I gotta go with Pacino. Paul did a good job but i`ll forget about that performance a year from now but i`ll STILL remember Pacino`s performance.

And then there`s Karen Morley`s performance compared to Michelle Pfeiffer. Very close indeed but I gotta go with Karen on this one. Allthough its quite obvious that remake Elvira is quite a bit different than original Poppy. Poppy seems a little more enthusiastic about being with Tony than Elvira does. And she actually seems to like Tony`s advances but Elvira just seems like she didn`t really care one way or another. And Poppy seems to get off on all of the gangster activity and Elvira is never really involved in it.

Lastly we have.. Tony`s sister. Both good performances but I gotta go with Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio as the better performance. But she did have a bigger role than Ann Dvorak. I just thinnk Francesca seems a little too "skippy" in the original. I guess they wanted to make her look like a kid or something but Gina seems a little more mature.

Ohh well.. I like both films but I favor the remake.
